Project Background

Kigtek were the principal contractors on a large scale valve replacement project for a major spirit production site in Scotland. The aim is to replace over 60 3port valves with over 120 2 port valves, as the current valves are obsolete. As principal contractors, Kigtek worked with J&I Pipework Services for the mechanical works, Bray UK for specification and coordination of valves, and Kigtek electrical teams.

Project Solution

Successful completion of any project is a great feeling for our team at Kigtek, however, completing the 3rd and final phase of a large Amri Valve replacement project was especially rewarding. The project aimed to replace obsolete Amri units by installing 120 new valves and updating the control system software.

Replacing valves involves invasive works which does require plant downtime, the challenge as always is to minimise this impact to our customers. To achieve this, the project was split into a series of 12-hour outages between production runs.

As the principal contractors for the project, Kigtek held responsibility for the mechanical subcontractor as well as CDM health and safety. This requires extensive planning and coordination in normal circumstances and was made even more challenging when incorporating COVID considerations such as effective social distancing.

Project Outcomes

Whilst the new implications could have led to disruptions or delays, Kigtek ensured each member of the teams involved were aware of, and followed, the necessary COVID policies of our customers and ourselves. The team effort from all involved led to a successful completion of the project one day earlier than planned to the delight of our customer.

Both customer and our MD Gordon commented on the ‘fantastic team effort to deliver this ahead of plan whilst adhering to the additional COVID health and safety requirements
